OIL Series

Heat Exchange:

Castle Pump Ltd can supply a complete range of heat exchanges or tube bundles, designed for fresh water, oil or diesel oil cooling by means of fresh water or sea water, as most common fluids. The hot fluid flows on the pipe outside, while the cold fluid flows on the pipes within. The complete range includes two main design differences depending on size and application.

CHO Series:

Tube bundle and body in one complete assembly. On this design the two fluid circuits are not sealed by elastic joints

A Series:

Strippable tube bundle, with fixed and floating head and heat expansions.

Installation:

For the correct heat exchanger installation, the main questions to have in mind are:

  • Horizontal or Vertical mountings are possible. For a correct efficiency, it must be ensured that both the fluid circuits are liquid filled and both fluids flow in opposite senses.

  • Special care must be taken to avoid exceeding the recommended cooling water capacities, and therefore, the circulating speed inside the pipes.

  • If possible, when the unit is not in operation, it must be without pressure, especially with cooling water.

  • The cooling water must be clean, without lime or similar substance, which can block the pipes. Otherwise, efficiency drops and unit life is shortened. Filters and proper treatment must be considered.

  • On hydraulic circuits, the unit must be mounted on the return line, just before the tank, to avoid capacity and pressure pulsation. If not possible, it is recommended mounting the unit in a separate circuit, with its own pump.

  • It is recommended that oil pressure in the heat exchanger is higher than cooling water pressure.

Applications:

Marine:

  • Fresh water cooling in marine engines.

  • Oil cooling in marine engines, gearboxes, hydraulic sets, etc.

  • Diesel oil cooling.

Industry:

  • Machinery hydraulic circuits.

  • Industrial process water cooling.

Selection:

For a proper cooler selection it is necessary to have the following data:

  • For Fresh Water Coolers:
    1. Heat transfer (kcal/h, kW, HP).
    2. Water flow.
    3. Water inlet temperature.
    4. Cooling water temperature.

  • For Oil Cooling:
As above but also with oil viscosity.

If the heat transfer is not known, the following approximate values can be used for the following specific applications:

  • For engine fresh water > 40% of the engines maximum power.

  • For oil in hydraulic circuits > 15% of hydraulic set total power.
